Let’s be honest, we all know that this is where the real work gets done. When out and about a cafe is the perfect hot desk. Grab a seat, a delicious hot drink and bury your head in your laptop/ notepad. Cafe’s are a networking hub like no other, a simple offer to purchase someone’s drink or a hello to a familiar face could be of real benefit. You never know where it may lead you. A meeting over coffee is a great introduction to a potential new client or employee, it’s a safe neutral space and of course COFFEE – who doesn’t love coffee? If things don’t go to plan you’ll still have enjoyed a handcrafted delicious brew in an easy accessible location.
If you’re new in town or looking to grab coffee with someone outside of your network consider your approach. Make sure you clearly state the WHY (benefit to the other person) and how you think you can help them. These meetings are a great ‘handshake’ moment to put a face to a name or make a better connection. DO your homework in advance so that both of your time is not wasted on surface level conversation. Have a glance at their LinkedIn/ website ahead of time. Once there, be respectful of their own time, ask pointed questions and build trust. They may not remember everything you said but they will certainly remember how you made them feel!
